Phone calls from a BT line are very expensive, even if you use their discount schemes such as Friends and Family or BT Together.  The one worth having is the free off-peak calls (up to 59 minutes) with BT Together for which a subscription is charged.  If this is not suitable for you, then try a carrier such as Equitalk.
